Jakarta. The daily total of coronavirus cases in Indonesia set a new record on Thursday as Jakarta -- the epicenter of the country’s outbreak -- topped 50,000 cases.
The country added 3,861 cases of the virus for a total of 207,203. The previous daily record was 3,622 cases reported last week.
The death toll jumped by 120, bringing the total number of Covid-19 deaths to 8,456, or 4.1 percent of total cases.

In the first third of the month, Indonesia has added more than 32,000 cases.
Jakarta has recorded 1,274 cases in the last 24 hours -- the second-highest rise in a day -- to take the city’s total to 50,671, including 1,351 deaths.
Newly cases in the capital have been escalating at an unprecedented level since late last month, when it began to report a four-digit daily total.
Governor Anies Baswedan decided on Wednesday that large-scale social restrictions will be reimposed from Monday as hospital capacity across the city is on the brink of being overwhelmed. He said ICU and isolation beds for Covid-19 patients will reach the limit next week unless strict physical distancing measures are brought back to the capital.
That means shopping malls, entertainment venues and other non-essential businesses will be temporarily closed, offices will reduce attendance by 50 percent, dining on premise will be banned at all restaurants, work-from-home policy will be in place again and distance learning will continue.

East Java registered 381 more cases for a total of 37,093, second only to Jakarta. But the province’s daily death toll reached a new high in more than a month with 42 to take its total death toll to 2,688, nearly double the number of Covid-19 deaths in Jakarta.
The death toll in East Java accounted for 31 percent of the national figure.
Central Java saw the highest one-day rise with 375 new cases, bringing the number of confirmed cases to 16,508. It reported 18 more deaths, the second-highest daily death toll after East Java, for a total of 1,124. Only three provinces have recorded more than 1,000 deaths since the outbreak.
West Java is ranked fourth with 13,668 cases, 335 more from yesterday.
Aside from the four worst-affected provinces on Java Island, Bali has added more cases than the rest of the country month to date.
The resort island has accumulated 1,627 cases since Sept. 1 to outnumber other hotspots like North Sumatra, which has added 1,283 new cases, East Kalimantan (1,203), South Sulawesi (1,054) and South Kalimantan (790).
Bali has a total of 6,834 cases as of Thursday and is ranked eighth below the top four Javanese provinces, South Sulawesi, South Kalimantan and North Sumatra.
In addition to Bali and North Sumatra, Riau has also emerged as new hotspot. It reported a record 194 new cases for a total of 3,163.
Active Cases Pass 50,000
Southeast Asia’s biggest country now has more than 51,000 active cases of coronavirus in all 34 provinces, nearly a quarter of total confirmed cases.
The number of cured or discharged Covid-19 patients surged by 2,310 for a total of 147,510, or 71.2 percent of total cases.
Jakarta has the highest number of active cases, totaling around 11,000 as of Thursday. West Java came second with around 6,500 active cases, followed by East Java with 5,100 active cases and Central Java with 4,700.
